NUCA Update: Data needed for OSHA Regulation Review

NUCA Request for Information:

OSHA has issued a Request for Information (RFI) regarding its regulations on powered industrial trucks (e.g., rough terrain forklifts) and is assessing whether to update the regulations to improve worker protection while easing burdens on employers.

Powered industrial trucks include forklifts and all fork trucks, tractors, platform lift trucks, motorized hand trucks, and other specialized industrial trucks powered by an electric motor or an internal combustion engine. For construction employers, powered industrial trucks are currently regulated by 29 CFR 1926.602(c) and (d).

OSHA is seeking a broad range of data and information about these trucks, including current usage, associated injuries and illnesses, the number and age of equipment in use, usage patterns in construction, and operator training.

NUCA will be participating in this RFI as a member of the Construction Industry Safety Coalition (CISC), which is made up of 25 construction trade associations committed to providing data-driven comments to OSHA in response to regulatory and other policy initiatives.

Responses to the survey below will provide CISC the data and information it needs to prepare comments that reflect real-world construction conditions and operations on behalf of coalition members, so please take a few minutes to complete the very brief survey by Friday, May 3.

All responses will be kept strictly confidential, and and no identifying information will be shared with OSHA.
